A few weeks ago I shared what one Monday looked like – in fact, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are all planned to go much the same. Of course, each day is different as people wake up with different issues, and life brings different opportunities. But Thursdays are planned to look different. Thursdays are about individual activities.
The plan is:
6.00-7.00ish – we get ready for our day
7.00/7.30am – the girls and I head into town to do the grocery shop
8.15am – the girls go to Mainly Music (a music and movement programme for mums and their young kids) I plan to go swimming, but haven’t got there yet since I made that plan!! And then I head home to deal with the groceries, record our personal finances for the week, and clean house.
Meanwhile Daniel is still at home – he has his morning responsibilities, and then works in the yard for about an hour – he looks after fallen palm fronds, cleans the water feature, and keeps the shed/carport area clean. He takes ½ hour rest before spending the rest of his morning with Media Studies. At the moment he is studying photography.
After Mainly Music the girls go to the pool for a swim – they are more successful with this than I am!
After lunch Daniel and I spend 1 hour together on various projects – so far he’s worked on helping me with a gift for my friend, a movie project and cleaning up an area of our yard/veranda.
When the girls get home Naomi spends the afternoon on her art. Actually Thursday is her Duke of Ed day: She volunteers, works on her fitness, and her art.
Late afternoon the boys (Josh and Daniel) go to a Teens-boys Bible study.
This year is very different for us as we have a lot of night time activities as we are working at using our evenings wisely to strengthen family relationships – whatever the configuration (whoever is at home). Every Thursday fortnight Josh and Jess go out with other young adults, but tonight is a everyone home night!
So it is a busy day with people going everywhere.
Of course today didn’t go to plan. I actually cancelled all my plans and went to my friends to quilt for the morning so I’ll go grocery shopping tomorrow. That meant the girls slept in a bit and headed out at 8.00, not 7.00am. Daniel’s plan stayed the same: chores, outdoor responsibilities, Media Studies. Our afternoon plans changed too – Joshua had a mate here and Daniel spent some time with them. Friends’ mum and sister came to pick him up and stayed for a visit, and before I knew it they were leaving out the front door as our dinner guests (aka all-but family) were arriving at the back door. So the house wasn’t ready, I wasn’t ready, dinner wasn’t ready – but we spent a lovely late afternoon and evening with friends we hadn’t seen for a few months.
Not every Thursday looks like that – but it did this week. Meant to take photos – but we were obviously too busy!
