Today’s Topic: Stay
I was in a meeting the other day was asked what my background was. The man was fishing for a career path – for formal training and experience. My only answer is though that I am a mother.
Staying at home and caring for a family is my career. I have approached my choice with the same diligence and persistence as any woman in the paid workforce.
- I have put myself through professional development – I intentionally set out to master certain skills that I know will help me be a more informed person, a more intentional mum, a more efficient homemaker, etc.
- I have created a network of friends. Networking in the business world is about connecting with a broad range of people with varied experiences and expertise. My friends are varied in experiences and perspectives and yet I know are there for me.
- I also keep my reading broad (research) so I can be aware of what others in my industry (homemaking – childcare etc) are studying, discovering and trying out. I don’t always agree, but they keep my mind stimulated.
Do you see your choice to stay at home as a career choice – with all the requirements to stay abreast of new information, practices and technologies to help you do your job better?
