Today’s topic for 5 minute Friday: Root
When a tree gets sick it is futile to simply treat the leaves. Instead we need to look deeper – look at the roots to consider the health of the tree. Why is it sick?
It is much the same when our kids show behaviour that we are not happy with. We can simply deal with the external behaviour or we can look at the root of it all – the heart – to see what is really going on.
What we believe will direct our actions. When our children misbehave they are believing something. My youngest used to believe that if he argued or negotiated he would get what he wanted. This directed his actions. I had to get to the root of the problem – his wrong belief – before I could see change in his actions.
We all believe something about everything. The question is – Is what I believe in line with what Jesus says. If it isn’t then my actions will be out of sync with the Word of God as well. No amount of tweaking, or changing my actions will have any lasting effect unless I deal with the root of the issue – my beliefs.
Five Minute Friday is a challenge where you write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, over thinking or backtracking. If you would like to read what others are sharing about this topic pop over to Lisa Jo’s .
