Welcome to Live life with your Kids!
Live life with your Kids comes with the message that parenting is about relationships with our kids, about teaching and training the heart, about using the whole of life to teach character, wisdom and life skills to our kids.
Live life with your kids is phrase that describes family life – and that is the heart of my blog.
Family is the place where we grow as strong individuals, and yet know a sense of belonging and purpose with others. It is a place where each individual grows and flourishes in their own created uniqueness.
I have been blogging for over ten years now. It started as a place for me to process what I was learning about homeschooling, but it didn’t take long for me to understand that homeschooling is just a tool – the important thing in raising my family was to be a heart focused parent.
And this is the encouragement I want to leave you with – our job as parent is to teach, train, guide and encourage the whole child: the spiritual, moral, emotional, social, intellectual and physical.
Behind the Blog
Hi – I’m Belinda. It is hard to introduce yourself without listing what you do first – we are more than what we do – we are who we are. I am me – I love Jesus, I love my family. I am a creative person who loves homemaking, scrapbooking, sewing and having friends over. I need rest and space from people talking to me! I enjoy reading (though between parenting and the internet I find my reading attention span has slipped!!) I enjoy being outdoors (though don’t do it nearly enough). I like the idea of gardening but watching a movie is more likely to win out.
I have four kids who are now mostly grown up – or well and truly on their way. We are all-but finished homeschooling (one to go) and though that brings a sense of change into my life, I find that parenting with relationships isn’t over – we still have plenty of conversations, at all times of the day, about all sorts of things. Being available for my family, and helping my kids in their endeavours still takes up a lot of my time.
Meet my family…
I am married to Peter. We live on a farm in the far north of Western Australia. Peter is a large animal Vet and flies across a huge distance to service the cattle stations in the north.
We have four children (Joshua 22, Jessica 21, Naomi 19, Daniel 16): We homeschool, we get involved in the Christian community, as well as the community at large. As a family we enjoy playing board games, having parties, watching movies and camping (though don’t do it enough). We all love reading and making things and most of us enjoy social media! Our favourite family time is Sunday breakfast where we try and have meaningful conversations though they often get distracted by funny one-liners from movies the kids have seen. If you were to talk to Pete and I you would find that our passion is about families (both the natural family and the family of God). Our deepest desire is for these two identities to be functioning as God has intended – with peace, harmony, and impact on the world around them.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)
I’m so glad you are here. I hope that you will find something amongst the many pages of this blog that will encourage your heart, that will give you ideas, that will give you hope as you intentionally live life.

Have you ever heard someone quoting the Bible - or saying they were - and yet you weren't really sure if the Bible really said that or not? If we love God, and his word, we need to know what it says - and what it doesn't say. There are a few common sayings that we...
In the next month the Christian church takes time to specifically remember the death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The expressions of this celebration (for I do see it as a celebration) has been over-taken by commercialism and the secular world. But it...
People say to me all the time “Oh, your children are growing up so fast”. Generally they are seeing physical changes as the children grow taller and voices deepen etc. Yes, they are growing up but it is more than physical - they are growing up morally, spiritually,...
When we let our lifestyle create learning opportunities for our family it is easy to become complaisant and take life as it comes, knowing that our children are learning. And yet, that isn't the fullest picture that I try to paint here on my blog as it doesn't...
As a heart-focused homeschooler I often find myself saying that relationships come first and that academics come lower down my list of priorities and I believe this whole heartedly. Without relationships we can’t teach our children anything, without moral development...
Parents are driven by a fear of their children having gaps in their education. We don't want our kids to not know what they are supposed to know, to not be up to scratch, or to not be at the same level of their peers. This way of thinking creates doubt and stress in...
