Five Minute Friday is a weekly writing challenge and linkup, where you write for 5 minutes on a designated word. Every so often, I find myself with some writing time on Friday (or as the case is this time round – on Sunday!) and plan to take this challenge. When I have done this I find that my 5 minutes of writing tends to reflect something that is going on in my life or my general reflections. So I share these short posts with this in mind – this is simply my immediate thoughts when I read this word today.
This week’s Five Minute Friday prompt is: Wait
There are some things in life that we just shouldn’t wait for:
- a better moment to say I love you
- a special occasion to use that china
- a celebration to use a candle at the table
- a reason to bake a cake or wear that pretty dress.
We put off doing the nice little things for special moments instead of making every moment special.
We wait till someone smiles at us before we smile at them.
We wait till someone is kind before we take that first step.
We wait till someone shares their heart before we share our own.
We wait till we are fully prepared instead of just giving it a try.
We wait till everything is perfect instead of enjoying the journey.
We wait till we have the courage instead of being brave today.
We wait until tomorrow because we trust tomorrow more than we trust what we have today.
We wait until it makes logical sense, till all our ducks are in a row.
We wait till everything is confirmed, and we are sure we won’t fall.
But sometimes we just need to stop waiting and grab life and give it a go.
And that is 5 minutes up!
Is there something you’ve put on hold – waiting for a better time?
Of course we need to live with the seasons of life we are in and with a heart of contentment – but we can also label fear, or laziness, or a habit of procrastination as ‘waiting’.
Let’s live life fully engaged, fully committed, brave, happy, and maybe with a little uncertainty!
