I believe that it is important for Christians to spend time with God on a daily basis. Jesus said, man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. A good diet that feeds our body is important but we must not neglect our spirit as well – we need to feed on the word of God.
We may be familiar with the words Quiet Time or Devotions to describe the habit of spending time with God on a daily basis.
It can be hard to find time, consistently, to be with God. This is why it is important for us to focus on the purpose not on the practice. A quiet time (probably a misnomer if we are speaking to God!!) can look like:
- Reading the Bible, chapter at a time
- Reading a devotional written by a mature Christian
- Listening to a sermon
- Listening to worship music
- Digging deeper with a Bible study
- Spending time in reflection
- Talking to God (prayer)
Call it Quiet time, Devotions or Bible study – it really doesn’t matter. The point is that we need God and that we set aside time every day to strengthen our relationship. That we get to know Him and what is important to Him. And that we respond with our whole heart to the things that we learn.
