Hi my name is Belinda….. all introductions start of this way and then for me things become a bit unravelled. We tend to tack on ‘what we do’ to our name – Hi I’m Belinda and I’m a …..and we fill in whatever we feel at that moment defines us.
One of the challenges that Peter has talked about is the idea – does his work define him? Is being a vet at the core of his being, is that who he is? Our society tends to make us think so. He introduces himself – Hi I’m Peter – oh I’m a vet. As if being a vet is the top priority in his life. And though it may take up most of his time, and it is a prioirity it isn’t the top priority.
He is a child of God
And a vet
Along with many other things
The top three are more defining roles – regardless of circumstances he will always be those things.
Can you recognise this situation in your own life? I have. When I write blurbs for myself to tack on the end of an article or talking engagement it seems to flow really well – Hi I’m Belinda, I’m a homeschool mum of 2. You see my homeschooling role has already diminished – it used to be 4 and one day there will be no children to homeschool. Who will I be?
I will be me…. The woman God made me – just spending my days differently.
I am a child of God
I am a wife
I am a mum
Within that, at the moment, I homeschool, I keep house, I work at a business.
I wonder if you can join me and introduce yourself as who you really are?
