Monday’s are fairly well known for being a bit of a blah day – Mondayitis and so forth. To be honest I either have really fantastic Monday’s or they are a bit of a drab. Over the years I’ve observed these days and they frustrate me. Why can’t I always have great Mondays? Or why couldn’t I always have bad Monday’s then I’d at least be consistent.
But I have observed a pattern and the outcome of Monday is directly related to what I do or do not do beforehand.
This is what I have observed: The Monday’s when I am prepared, rested and excited are the great Mondays. And not unexpectedly, the Monday’s when I’m rushed, exhausted and not thrilled with stuff is what would invite a bad Monday.
I wonder if you would observe the same thing in your house?
Here are a few things I’m working on to keep more good Mondays happening than bad ones.
- Plan next week’s lessons Friday or Saturday – including any prep for hands on lessons
- Clean the house before the weekend, not on Monday (though the laundry is big on Mondays)
- Do no work from Saturday dinner time till I put the kids to bed on Sunday. This gives me a good rest physically, emotionally, spiritually and allows me relational time with family and friends.
- Put stuff away Sunday night – a quick declutter or as we call it in our family “Blitz” the house before bedtime on Sunday.
The next problem I have observed is that knowing this about preparing for a good Monday doesn’t automatically make it happen!! I still procrastinate, and try to multi-task too much and things don’t happen like they should! I need self-discipline – the consistent action of doing the right thing, resisting the urge to do the selfish thing.
How do you go on Mondays? Are they productive days? What are your keys to making Monday a good day?
