Many years ago Peter and I spent a day working together to identify the things we wanted our family to be characterised by. We came up with this family vision statement:
Our vision comes out of personal relationship with God and the consequent desire for godly character, specifically: order, peace, wisdom and creativity. These are to characterize our every area of life:
- In our family togetherness, identity and home
- In our relating to others
- In our business ventures
The outworking of this will be others knowing God and His purposes.
We have been very encouraged over the years to see these things expressed in our family and understood by our children. We pray that the vision that we have begun will be carried on from this generation to the next.
We are very aware of the heritage we have with God-loving, God-obeying parents (our children’s grandparents) and thank God for the heritage of family living to glorify God. We pray that whatever expression that may take in years to come, it will continue to be what characterises our children’s lives.
I am writing 31 days of Heart Conversations to document 31 important truths I want to make sure I pass onto my children. Is today’s topic something you want to talk to your kids about? Do it today! Your words may well be different than mine but these truths will shape our children’s lives forever.
