And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail, … if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, being careful to do them (Deut 28:13) We’ve used this verse many times to remind you to make wise decisions – to be the head, not the tail, to follow God’s ways in any situation. And this is the key – a leader will follow God’s ways. For you to be a leader any other way is empty. You may not look like a leader in the eyes of world, but you will be able to stand tall in front of God your King.
The second verse is reflected in the old song – If you want to be great in God’s Kingdom, learn to be a servant of all (Matthew 20:26-28) We think a leader is the boss, dishing out authority but this is not the model Jesus gave us and it is not the standard that He sets before us. To serve others is the call that Jesus puts on all his followers, and as we serve, we will be a true influence in the heart of men.
