Today we started with our study schedule lessons planned times allocated all set holidays over. Then life started to happen.
Pete was home for the morning so he joined us for our family devotions. We are working through one another verses and this week we are looking at forgiveness. So we talked about that and I mentioned an illustration that Corrie ten Boon tells of all our sins being thrown into a lake and on the edges of the lake is a NO FISHING sign. God doesnt go fishing to pull back out our sins and neither should we they are forgiven, done, gone, finished!!
Well someone wanted to know who Corrie ten Boon was, and then who were the Nazis and then somehow Pete was explaining the last week of the War when the Allies were closing in on Berlin and how the East/West Germany happened, he just happened to mention the Cold War which of course led very naturally to talking about the Berlin Wall coming down, and that led to a brief discussion on communism and dictators.
Then we jumped from there to how the body of Christ works or should work (I have no idea of the connection but our conversation just flowed from one thing to the next). Which lead to talking about our individual giftings and how they work in the family. Which lead to talking about Proverbs 31 before Peter read that I challenged the boys to listen because the passage is actually written to a young man, and for the girls to take note as well. This lead to a discussion about a woman working at home.
Which lead back to us as a family working for Gods glory together. Peter used the word synergy and while the big kids worked out what syn meant I gathered the younger two and explained to them the idea of prefixes and suffixes. We gathered a few syn words so that by the time the meaning had been found we could see how knowing the meaning of the prefix helped understand the word.
At this point we felt we had done a days study! We had covered Bible study, devotional thought, history, geography, business and language arts.
We closed our time in prayer.
This was a wonderful time and I sure wish we had more of them. We looked at the clock and spent the next little while rearranging our plans to work in with everyones needs.
Daniel and Peter fixed the garden blower.
Josh prepared for his tutoring job this afternoon.
Nomi did her piano practice
Jess hit the books
And I made some nibblies in the kitchen.
Im not really sure what happened after that. Suddenly it was 11.30 and Pete was taking Josh into town for some driving practice. Nomi made lunch, Jess needed help with math, Daniel packed his bag and played with Lego. By 12.15 we were all set to go to town, except that my 2.00 prayer partner wasnt in town, so that gave me a little extra time to spend with the kids at either the pool or library. We get into the pool and it was closed. Not to worry, we went and sat in the park and had lunch together. It was just lovely cool breeze and very noisy parrots squawked the whole time we were there. We then went shopping since we had some time up our sleeve better than doing it later in the week. Then we went to the library and enjoyed books until Josh was finished tutoring.
We came home tired but it has been a good day. Not the day I had planned by a long shot – but that can all happen tomorrow but a good day, full of learning, being together, and doing important things.
