Today (Thursday) I intended to do the grocery shop early in the morning, but I phoned my dad and mum instead. By the time we got off the phone (yes, a long phonecall, where I was able to clean up all the bugs from last night, sweep the floor, tidy a draw and sort a few hotspots!), it was too late to do the grocery shop.

Thursday is a mix-up day – lots of things happen, and things always change, but we do good stuff!! We were in the car just after 8.00 to take the girls to Mainly Music. Daniel and I then went out for coffee so I could write up my shopping list. We had 5 chores to do around town, and after number one, I received a phonecall and made plans to catch up with a friend for a cuppa at our place. So we rushed through the 5 chores, did a minimum/basic only grocery shop and were home 15 minutes before my friend.

Daniel occupied himself while I chatted. (Note: Joshua works today so he was out of the house too.)

The girls were dropped off my another Mainly Music lady, I finished my visit with my friend and we all had lunch, did the chores and got ready for our afternoon activity.

Thursday afternoon – usually fortnightly, we have Keepers. At the moment we are sewing little projects with the goals to understand construction of fabric projects, to improve on finishing up details and to enjoy fabric. Today we only had 4 girls – usually we have 5. The girls sewed diligently for 1.25hours when I called it a day. The youngest two were out of there like a shot – they were keen to go climb a tree! The older two stayed and worked longer on their projects and the other Mum and I had raw chocolate pie and a cuppa tea.

I had the freedom to stay for a bit longer today because I wasn’t expecting anyone to turn up for Biblestudy. But we decided to keep on the same time schedule as if people were coming and to have a little extra Bible study as a family. But… relational issues sprang forth and that needed to be walked through. This took time and when everything was sorted it was really bed time. I had some tired children on my hands.

I like our Thursdays – even though they are a bit pushed for time. I love the way the girls help out with this community service, the fact that Josh has an opportunity to not only earn money but learn practical skills he isn’t strong in, Daniel and I often get some one on one time, I usually have some office time and we finish the day in Bible study. It isn’t a traditional school day by a long shot but the skills that the children learn are invaluable and very much a key part of their learning opportunities.
