Last year Peter was given a voucher, as a thank you gift, to take the family on a river cruise. The cruise only operates in the Dry Season (our winter) so we decided to wait till the end of the season when the weather was a little warmer. It was a lovely 34C! We took the sunset cruise, which left at 4.00pm, cruised the river, and then "parked" (do boats park?) to watch the sunset and have a BBQ dinner. We were able to find a nice balance between mixing with the tourists onboard and being a family. Some of the tourists initially thought it weird for locals to be doing the touristy thing – but hey, look at the view – why wouldn’t you join in!
Daniel couldn’t help himself – he had to give it a go.
They look rather relaxed don’t they!
We saw lots of birdlife but the kids love coming around the bend in the river
and seeing trees full of bats.
Right at the end of the cruise we went croc spotting.
The captain jumped overboard and grabbed this one, plucking it straight up for us to see.
Though it has a sharp set of teeth it was only a freshie.
Fresh water crocodiles are not feared like the salt water crocs we see every so often.
We had a fantastic afternoon and I reckon we should do a cruise at least once a year –
regardless of a gift voucher or not!
