This week I want to write a series of what goes on in our house. There is nothing special about this week – I have planned a normal week, it will have normal interruptions, we will have our normal success rate and we will change our plans!

Monday morning started with a bit of vigor because I have been sick for so long and yet woke up feeling like I had energy. You always get so much done on that first day back!
I start my day with quiet reading, and planning my day. I went for a walk – another thing I haven’t done for so long. I had a new homeschool message on my mp3 so I really enjoyed my time. Jessica made me a smoothie for breakfast so I sat outside under a tree, eating that and listening to the rest of the seminar session.
The mornings for the kids are somewhat like mine – they wake, dress, do their bedroom, have breakfast, their quiet time, go for a walk/bike ride and do their morning chores.
Our chores stay the same for the week. This week
Josh is doing the outside chores, which includes the chickens and rubbish
Jess is doing the laundry
Nomi is doing the bathroom and family room
Daniel is doing the kitchen and cooks helper.
Though we were “doing well” we weren’t running on time. We have just started daylight savings and it takes us a while to get our systems back in sync with the clock. So we kind of meambled through our morning, doing what we had to do but without time constraints. When that happens the kids start their studies when they are ready and we seem to forget to get together for our family devotions.
Daniel did his typing, and math. We didn’t get to his phonics lesson though he had reading practice during his math. I was excited about what we did for his math – using online resources and making a math scrapbook (but more about that in another post!)
Nomi and Daniel then came together for FIAR. We are reading Madeline. We have a collection of Madeline stories and they didn’t want to read the same story again (as is the plan with FIAR) so we read the next story. The same lessons come through most of the stories though today we focused on France. After the story Nomi went to work by herself on another set of reading/research/writing, this time on the country of France using a library book. I worked with Daniel. Nomi started on an outline, whereas Daniel got some photos scanned for his Notebook page (which we will finish tomorrow).
Meanwhile the older two continue to work by themselves. They list their goals for the day and then tick them off as they go in their diary. Jessica completed for the day:
Piano, practice though got a little stumped with her theory
Science– she is doing some cleaning experiments
History– reading, writing
Bible study – Polished Cornerstones
Practiced her speeches for the coming Speech Night
Joshua also had a good study session:
Writing– The effects of Creation and Evolution
Fixed a computer problem for me
At 11.00 I asked them all to pack up their desks and it was time for Bedroom Bless. This is where they spend 1 hour a week doing the cleaning in their bedrooms. They had to cobwebs, clean airconditioners and fans, dust, wipe fingerprints, change sheets, and sweep the floor. We have a boy room and a girl room so they share the tasks together and work together. The theory is that I’m to do my room at the same time but that didn’t happen this week. I caught up on some phone calls that had to be made.
I also started dinner in the crockpot. I haven’t done crockpot dinners for so long but am trying to do at least one, and I’d like two, a week. It was lamb chop stew for tonight.
After a quick lunch the girls and I went into town. I catch up with a friend, and have a time of prayer together every week. So the girls waited for me while that happened and then we went shopping.
I came home from town exhausted so had a nap on the couch. And then phoned my mum and chatted the afternoon away (while I still rested). The kids had free time in the afternoon. Other than a little time on the computer the girls worked on some creative projects and the boys played Risk together.
5.00 is our changing time – we start focusing on our evening. So it is chore time again, along with showers for all. Dinner was at 6.30. Everyone helps clean up. Instead of having quiet reading time before lights out the kids watched an animal documentary on TV. I went into the office and made bookings for our holidays! Yay!!
Once the kids go to bed, of course I still have work ahead of me. I had things to do for Peter’s business, holiday bookings and lesson plans for tomorrow. I had down time in front of the TV and promptly fell asleep!
