We always have our Christmas party towards the beginning of December.  Our party has a Thanksgiving/Tree Decking theme.  Until recently Australia didn’t have a national thanksgiving opportunity so we felt leading up to Christmas time, the end of the year etc was a good opportunity for our family to focus on being thankful.  We fill our house full of friends and invite them to be thankful too!

Over the years we have had friends come and go though I think this year we have had an unusual amount of friends leave town.  Though this is sad, God is involved in our lives, and He always has other people around to enrich our lives.

This is the first year, in 7-8 years, that the build up for the wet season (very hot and humid) hasn’t brought on bouts of pain for our daughter, Nomi.  Her pain is the result of surgery as a baby and though there is no doubt a degree of "outgrowing it" she/we have learnt to manage her health which is such a blessing.

Our children were thankful for their friends, their dog, books.  Jess was thankful the time that I take to show her thing, and Josh reminded us that though it was good to be thankful for the good things we should be thankful for the bad too because God is in control!

How true Joshua’s reminder was though in a mixed group of friends we do tend to focus on the good rather than open ourselves up and be vulnerable and share the struggles we have had (we may label them but not share them!).  Either way, God has been faithful over the last year, He provides for all our needs – physical, emotional, spiritual and practical.  So we thank you Lord!

Oh yes, it is also a Tree Decking Party.  The rules are very simple
1.  Everyone must hang at least one decoration.
2.  I mustn’t change it the next morning!!  (So everyone has to do there best to make it look good!)

This year I asked my friends to bring the salads, I cooked roast meats, and the girls and I cooked the desserts.  Jess made pavlova and Nomi made cheesecake, both were desserts they girls hadn’t made before so they did really well.  Daniel helped by making an Ambrosia salad which he took delight in serving to everyone though as it turned out – he didn’t really like it himself!!
