Monday

We started our week with a kick – today was Bedroom Bless day.  The day the kids get in and do a weekly clean in their bedrooms.  They work in pairs, sharing the load.  They do cobwebs, airconditioner, fingerprints, declutter their possessions, change the sheets and sweep the floor.  Daniel and I were excused from the first part of Bedroom Bless so we could work on his exercises.

After morning tea we sat down to our Character/Gratefulness lesson.  While the older ones worked on a writing/drawing assignment Daniel had his phonics and math lesson.  Josh and Jess continued with their discipline studies after lunch.

Tuesday

Today was a great learning day.  We were out the door at 8.15am for a science presentation by Questacon.

Daniel’s group leant about friction – he has had a great time retelling (showing) how to pull a table cloth out from under plate and cup!

Jessica and Nomi’s group learnt about the Great White Shark, and Liquid Nitrogen.

It was great to make contact with the presenters (scientists).  One of them has offered to put together some activities that would help us run a hands-on Science expo for our Co-op next year.  I have wanted to do that for a long time but have baulked a bit – so it looks like it may happen after all.  It’s not what you know but who you know!!

Tuesday night was of course the Lunar Eclipse.  We went to neighbours for dinner and moon-gazing since we have too many trees close to the house and wouldn’t see the moon rising.  It was a great night constantly being amazed at God’s creation.

Wednesday

The younger two and I are bit whacked after yesterday’s busy day and late night.  The older two had their list of studies and progressed through each subject very diligently.  Daniel had  his exercise and phonics, Nomi worked on her typing and a notebook page.

Life has been really busy and there were a few attitude issues that I felt needed the younger two to spend quiet, relaxed, fun time together.  They spent most of the day playing with Lego and a pirate ship.  Nothing like relational time together to pull a family together!

Thursday

A very busy day.  Nomi and Daniel not well so they have had the day off.  Daniel played with his Lego for hours.  Nomi read a lot.  Josh worked through his studies.  Jessica had Mainly Music in town, she helped me with the shopping and then had her music/piano lesson.

A friend of mine is in hospital with her baby boy on drips etc so I came home from town and cooked her family a meal.  It was a good opportunity for a cooking lesson for Nomi.  She learnt how to brown mince and onions, she improved her peeling potato skills.  The peeler seems like such a simple tool to use and yet….. it does take instruction!

In the afternoon we had Keepers.  The little boys worked with hammer and nails again as well as made some plaster plaques for etching on next week.  The big boys worked on a robot kit Josh has had in the cupboard for ages.  The girls continued with their quilt – by the time they’ve done their homework this week they will have completed all the blocks for the center of the quilt –next week we start appliqué.

Friday

The week seems to be getting slower as we go along.  Most of today was spent relaxing and enjoying each other’s company.

Josh and Jess both spent time with their history studies.  Nomi spent a bit of time creating – she did her Keepers homework (sewing her quilt patches), and make a book mark using the paper piecing technique (she made a windmill from paper shapes).

Josh and Jess had Youth Group Bible Study.  Nomi and Daniel watch a video – The Nutty Professor – it is the original Flubber story.  Pete and I sat and joined in with the laughs.  We enjoy seeing our kids enjoy old movies.

Saturday

We spent the afternoon getting ready for a special Father’s Day dinner since Peter isn’t going to be around for the whole of Sunday.  As daylight came to an end, and we hadn’t heard the plane go overhead, we were sure that he was stuck out on the job and that he was not going to make it home tonight.  We were all preparing ourselves for disappointment and promising never to make a special meal again unless he is in the house!  But to our delight he walked in the door wondering why we were doubtful!   Jessica cooked a Lemon Delicious (her dad’s favourite) and Nomi crumbed the chicken drumsticks.

Sunday

Once a month several of the churches in town gather together for a Sunday morning service.  It is a great time of fellowship and has become a highlight for our family.  Our afternoon was spent very relaxed – lots of reading.  The kids are pretty crook with a head cold so tomorrow is going to be a pretty cruisey day.
