It has been some time since we have had any routine or output expectations on the kids.  Joshua has been doing his Math and Science most days over the last week – especially if Peter didn’t have any particular chore for him to work on.  This week we are adding a little more discipline to our day.

After Daniel’s enthusiasm with learning last week I have to pick up the consistency with him.  So from this week we are adding FIAR with Daniel (this is ontop of the Speech and OT activities we have been doing).  Joshua will continue with is Math and Science and add a little writing everyday as he wants to get some blogging done and some notebook pages finished.  Jessica and Naomi are starting on their Reading list and Reading Journals.

This afternoon the kids spent their time together down in the Family Room.  They listened to some “Story Hour” tapes.  Nomi covered her Reading Journal and wrote over ½ a page in response to her Reading time.  Jessica also read for ½ hour and wrote in her Reading Journal.  Daniel asked for a journal with lines, which he decorated.  Jessica wrote “Daniel’s Art and Writing Practice Book” on the cover.  He has done a very good job and it is exciting to see him enthusiastic and showing intiative.

I did get to FIAR with Daniel.  We read Storm in the Night with the intention of doing a quick unit on Weather since the Wet Season is the time to study weather up here.  Daniel announced to me that he didn’t need to do it as he learnt all about weather from Miss Frizzle.  Gotta love those Magic School Bus Videos!  He is probably right about having learnt about it but we will do a bit of review and get him to do some notebook pages as we go along.  He thoroughly enjoyed the story – the dialogue between the characters in the story is very realistic and with a touch of humour which Daniel wouldn’t have caught onto last time we read it.

Having noticed some opposites in the descriptive writing in Storm in the Night I pulled out an Opposites Puzzle for Daniel to play.  He actually set it up as a game of Memory so we played that together.
