I would never have dreamt that I could enjoy Winnie the Pooh like I have; our whole family have enjoyed it. Daniel and Nomi enjoyed the stories, Jess and Josh though enjoyed the play with words. AA Milne was very clever!
Not long ago we finished reading two Pooh Bear books as our read alouds, then co-incidentally and accidentally we taped a movie A bear called Winnie which is the true story which was the inspiration for Pooh Bear.
This week the kids sat down and watched the movie. We then brainstormed various writing opportunities that we could pursue between the two books and the movie. This is the list we came up with:
Picture / Map showing the setting
Retelling of the Real story
Retelling of my favourite story
Copy write of my favourite poem
Character study on a character from book or movie
Research on Black Bears
Tell me something funny
Copy write a quote
Explain a concept Pooh tried to explain
Do any Scriptures come to mind?
Write your own Pooh Bear story (using Pooh Bear characters, your own setting/plot)
Word Map / Picture map of Winnies journey (real bear)
Poster to tell people about the book
Pictures telling the story Beginning / Middle / End
Book review for newspaper
Create a Game
Copy draw a picture
Draw your own picture
Femo / modelling clay of character
Each child has chosen at least 5 of these (some duplicate with each other) and we are going to create a family lapbook on Pooh Bear.
I am very excited about this project. It is relevant to what the kids are doing in their days. It makes room for Daniel who is learning to read/write and for Josh who can think deeply and communicate this way and for the girls inbetween. It is making a memory for them. We will have a book to keep forever of our time with Winnie the Pooh!
