The children of our church family helped lead the service today. Our Jessica opened in prayer. Josh led the praying for others in need. Daniel actually joined in the praying and prayed for our friend who is in hospital. The girls joined the singers up the front with the microphone, Josh and Daniel kept the overhead projector organised and Daniel lit the candle to help us remember that Jesus is the light of the world.
During the worship, having the girls out the front, singing with the microphone was a very powerful, moving moment. I couldnt help but be awed by the fact that these kids were declaring that Jesus is Lord, they sang that they would sing His praises forever They sang, they worshiped, not because of any sense of duty, not because their parents came to church and they tagged along they sang, they declared these words because it is true They have decided, even at this young age, to follow the Lord, to sing with joy, because of what He has done. There was a sense of truth in hearing their young voices.
Hearing Joshua remind us of what the Word has to say about Christians when two or three are gathered together, God will answer our prayers this made me sit up and say Yes! with the other believers who were praying.
Hearing Daniel persevere with his prayers for a friend who has touched his heart he prays for this man regularly. Daniels little voice was not heard so someone else prayed over him. He was so discouraged, Pete got the microphone for him and he prayed his cares to his God. People may not have understood the words he said, but they understood a little boy believes that God can strengthen a very sick man.
Anyone looking at Nomi Mae may not have known that she was nervous about standing up and singing. It took me by surprise she has become our family actor/clown but this was not fooling around. But she prayed and she knew God was with her so she could stand up there and sing. That in itself is a step in her own walk with God.
There were other children also involved. One read the scriptures, Two sisters gave the childrens talk, and our girls were joined by all the young girls to be singers.
What a blessing to see such young people ages 6 to 14 being a part of a church family, declaring their love for God.
